Kind of a bummer...

This post is going to be kind of a bummer post. In the last month I have encountered 2 blogs that have made me sit at my computer and cry, take a 15 minute break, and then come back and cry and read some more. They both involve children and their families enduring cancer. I am going to give you links to their websites, and then warn you that these children and their families (especially their moms) are going to touch your world. Your heart will physically ache for them and you will wonder how a parent can live through that kind of heart ache and it will make you want to go and hug your perfectly healthy children and pray to God that they will never have to fight that fight.

Hadleyfox.com and the Fox Family Blog- This carepage/blog is about Hadley Fox who was a member of the Metro church of Christ in Gresham. She passed away last month at the age of 8 after at least 4 years of fighting a brain tumor. Angela, her mom, is trying to get Child Cancer Awareness license plates instated for the state of Oregon. If you have a car registered in Oregon, and are so compelled, please sign her petition.

Tuesday is a little girl who turned 2 in October. She was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma (aka cancer) last July and passed away yesterday.

I am going to add one more, I don't believe he has a blog or carepage, my cousin Aaaron. He is an incredibly special boy with a wonderful outlook on life. He has been doing chemo for the past 3 years for leukemia. He is a teenager now, but is still his mommy and grammys baby.

I know you are probably thinking that it will be too difficult to read these, and it is. But I just kept putting myself in their mothers place. They are telling their childs story, they want their children to have a legacy, however short it may have been. I think we have all probably been touched by cancer either physically or emotionally through someone we love. Some have victory stories (PRAISE GOD) and some are sadder, but no less heroic.

Please pray for these families.

La Sirena

My newest print for sale in my Etsy store! I was inspired by the Mexican loteria card, "La Sirena". Of course, I gave her the "Dia de los Muertos" makeover!

New Goodies!

I've been loving the new toys I got for Christmas and my birthday, I was spoiled! I received an AMAZING new printer, that makes vibrant, crisp prints of my artwork-so now I'm able to offer quality prints of my work! I also received a little gadget that allows me to make laminated magnets and stickers of my images-very fun! I have a wicked "Dia de los Muertos" magnet set in my Etsy store. One of my favorite new items!

I've also started offering postcards of my original paintings in my Etsy store. I'm very pleased with how they turned out, I think they'll definitely add some flavor to the mail! I just added a roller derby girl set, but the "Wicked Beauties" set offers the biggest variety.

Lastly, aside from creating my new goodies, I've started a commissioned painting for a fellow Austinite, Amanda. I'm very excited about this piece, it's going to be full of color, calaveras, animals, flowers, and amor! I will post the completed piece.;-)

I've had my hands full with new projects, so I won't be listing again on eBay for awhile. I hope to do more local shows this year. I've been contacted by a few eBayers, and I appreciate the love.:-) Please look for new stuff from me in my Etsy store, and feel free to contact me (through my website, eBay, or Etsy) with any requests. Back to work...well, it's really more like play! ;-)

Mission Accomplished

First of all.....CONGRATULATIONS TO: Wendy and Will on their #3 Westyn Jack born on 1/13 and also CONGRATULATIONS TO: Corey and Kelsey on their #1 Paisley Emberlyn born this morning 1/23. They are both perfect and adorable. Hopefully their blog will get pictures up soon.

If you remember my New Years Resolution last year was to read a book over 300 pages. Well...I accomplished my goal, and then some. I have read13 books over 300 pages, and one was not. I had forgotten how much I love to read, and how relaxing and enjoyable it is. I have truly enjoyed getting back into it. I thought I would give you a list of the books I read...

Carolina Moon, Time and Again, Captivated, Entranced, Charmed, and Enchanted- All of these are by Nora Roberts. Carolina Moon was my first accomplishment last year. All of these are about the same, cheesy predictable romance novels. I actually can't recommend them because the content is sometimes racy. But they are entertaining and all of them have good interesting stories. Captivated, Entraced, and Charmed are also referred to as the Donovan Trilogy.

A Thousand Splendid Suns- Going from Nora Roberts to this book was kind of a shock to the system. This is an eye opener, because though it is not a non fiction story you know that this is probably a lot of womens life story in the mideast. I came away from this book feeling very grateful for the life I have. I very much recommend this book.

Kite Runner-I had to read this after I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. I was kind of nervous to read it because it is written by the same author, and A Thousand Splendid Suns was such a deep gut wrenching read. And this was just as gut wrenching, but at least I was prepared this time. It is a wondeful story of friendship, loyalty, and enduring. I loved it.

Peace Like A River- This is a great book. The author, Leif Enger, is a very good storyteller and the story itself is very interesting. Thank you to Aunt Dawn for the loan! It is books like this that inspire me to want to write, but then I also get intimidated because I don't think I could ever write as compelling and thought provoking as this author.

Witch of Blackbird Pond-This book actually doesn't count for my resolution, because it is less than 300 pages. But I read it so I thought I should give it a shout out, especially since it is my favorite. I get something new out this book everytime I read it. It is a great look at how things were when our country was new, with a little action and a little love.

The Twilight Series- Ok, so most of you who know me already know that I loved these books. I am actually on my second round with them. I liked the plots, the characters, the relationships, and especially the love story. I don't think I can really elaborate any more because I might embarrass myself. Bottom line....LOVE THESE BOOKS!

Next on my list are Jane Eyre and Revolutionary Road.

I think this is the first year I actually did what I resolved to do, and it has inspired me to resolve again. So this year I am resolving 2 things. First... I am going to send out birthday cards, mostly on time. So if you want a birthday card from me give me your address and your birthday. =) I already have my birthday cards for January done, I just have to put them in the mail on time. Yeah. Second....and this one is going to be more challenging and a little cliche, but.....I am going to lose weight. I want to fit into all of my summer clothes, I refuse to go buy more just because I can't fit into them. My first test is this next week, I have to send out 2 birthday cards and slow down my Dr. Pepper intake in the same week!

I hope to blog a little more freqently coming up. This particular entry just took me forever. Let me know if you have read any of the above books, and what you thought. HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

CUADRO, CLAVE DEL CUADRO II

.

.

Christmas Fun

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We had a very busy week. Carrie and David and the boys got here very early on Christmas Eve, and we went to my grandparents on Christmas Eve and had pizza. Ryan and Katie got here Christmas Eve night. Christmas Day we had a nice relaxing morning of presents and blueberry muffins and then went to my parents house for the rest of the day (with everybody above and the Bratchers). It was a fun day of presents, eating, playing Pounce/Nerts, and just hanging out. Here are the customary pictures in front of the tree with presents. The only thing Violet realllllly wanted this year, and asked for quite often, was the Dora and flying horse that she is holding. She was very excited to open it.

When George and Nolan are here the four of them come in as a group deal....we'll call them "The Crew". They play sooo well together, there is a lot of hugging, playing, laughing, screaming, and occasionally crying (mainly by Hazel). I am glad they like eachother so much, cousins are great people to have in your life! Here are some more Christmas pictures....

Here is The Crew...getting ready to open presents Christmas day

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm looking forward to 2009, as I think it will be a good year for Illustrated Ink. I have many new ideas that I can't wait to get started on! I always love the feeling of a fresh start that a new year brings. I hope to do more festivals this year and I'm going to put more time and love into my Etsy store. Here's to a rockin' 2009!!
